Following the release of numerous singles across the last year, Didirri has officially announced the release of his forthcoming second EP, with Sold for Sale set to arrive on September 25th.
The follow-up to 2018’s Measurements, the new EP was partially recorded between a house in the isolated and concentrated rural idyll of Johanna on Victoria’s south-west coast, and the iconic Sunset Sound studio in Los Angeles.
Partially recorded via sound sound files and video calls with musicians from all across the world, Sold for Sale arrives as a product of the times, and provides as much of a physical and metaphorical journey for artist as it does a sonic journey for the listener.
Working alongside iconic Joe Chiccarelli (Elton John, Beck, The Shins), lead single “The Critic” sees Didirri pairing a heartbreaking tale of love gone awry against an uplifting melody as he describes the sort of person who overanalyses every action and reaction of a relationship.
“The act of criticizing something can often ruin it,” Didirri explains. “It may seem like the most intelligent move to analyse your every action but make sure you don’t over correct and start to see things beyond what is actually going on.
“Love needs to be free of criticism to flourish. You aren’t the expert in your relationship; you are half of the team and half of the problem.”
“The Critic” also arrives paired with a music video directed by Peter Hume, which aims to capture the vicious repetitive cycle of overthinking and over complicating a relationship, which can often lead to heartbreak.
“I wanted to play with the concept of a hopeless romantic. All too often we ruin something beautiful by naming it or wreck something fragile by touching it,” Didirri added.
“We can start with the best foot forward and end up on a treadmill, circling in our analysis of love over and over. It’s not just the thorns that will scratch you, if coddled, love will bleed.”
While his Sold for Sale EP is set to be released late next month, Didirri has also announced a virtual world tour in the lead up to the EP’s arrival, which offers specially-curated intimate concerts for fans throughout the UK, North America, Europe, and Canada. The events will culminate in a special release-day stream for Aussie fans, with Didirri hand-pressing vinyl and talking about the EP on September 25th.
The concerts are available on a “pay what you can” basis, and will be available to view for free for anyone who doesn’t have the means. Meanwhile, fans can also donate directly to the artist, band, and production crew if they have the capacity.
Didirri’s “The Critic” is out now, while his Sold for Sale EP will be released on September 25th via Unified Music Group/Nettwerk Music Group.
