Dean & Britta, the indie rock duo made up of Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips, were recently announced as part of the impressive first lineup for The Others Way Festival 2024.
They’ve also confirmed extra shows across Aotearoa, where they’ll be playing songs from Galaxie 500.
These are the songs that launched the remarkable career of Wellington-born Dean Wareham. After his time with Galaxie 500, Wareham went on to form Luna, a band that eventually included Britta Phillips—who is also known as the original singing voice of Jem from Jem & the Holograms.
Since Luna’s last release, Dean & Britta have continued to produce a steady stream of albums, EPs, and soundtracks, including their acclaimed work on the indie film The Squid and the Whale.
In late November and early December, Dean & Britta, along with drummer Roger Brogan, will headline venues in Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, in addition to their performance at The Others Way Festival in Auckland. Attendees can look forward to hearing the timeless music of Galaxie 500, aswell as “a handful of other gems from the sublime Dean Wareham songbook”
Uncut Magazine praised Wareham’s 2021 solo album I Have Nothing To Say to the Mayor Of L.A., noting it contains “unimpeachable masterpieces.”
American guitarist and singer-songwriter Thurston Moore also lauded Galaxie 500, stating that “Galaxie 500, in some otherworldly way, brought us back to earth so we could recalibrate and soar anew.”
