Miami’s Ultra Music Festival witnessed pop music history Friday night as David Guetta, Afrojack, and Sia appeared onstage to perform their 2011 hit “Titanium” live together for the first time.
Toward the end Afrojack’s headlining set Friday at the EDM fest — which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year — the artist played a portion of Guetta’s “Sexy Bitch,” hinting at the impending guest appearance. Guetta himself then emerged onstage and, moments later, the pair were joined Sia, wearing one of her trademark wigs and giant bow that obscured her face.
Although the track was credited to only Guetta and Sia upon its 2011 release — Afrojack reportedly declined to be credited on “Titanium,” which he later regretted — Guetta made clear of Afrojack’s contribution prior to the surprise performance, saying that his “little brother” helped him clear a creative roadblock that ultimately resulted in the track becoming a Top 10 hit.
Despite the song’s platinum success, the trio had never performed the song live, in part due to Sia’s bouts with stage fright. However, she overcame those fears Friday night to make her first-ever Ultra Music appearance.
Sia also stuck around to perform her new Guetta-assisted single “Beautiful People,” while Afrojack also played his new song “Never Forget You.”
“I’m so happy to be back working with Sia again!” Guetta said in a statement when “Beautiful People” arrived earlier this month. “She’s one of the greatest voices and songwriters of our generation, and it feels like we’ve had this special connection ever since we wrote ‘Titanium’ back in 2011.”
