DARTZ’s excellent second album, Dangerous Day to Be a Cold One, conquered the charts, claiming the top spot on multiple rankings. Now, they’re gearing up for their awaited Aotearoa tour, starting this Thursday in Nelson.
But that’s not all – true to form, the irrepressible punk crew from Wellington have gifted fans with a rowdy new music video for the album’s rollicking title track. Directed by Tom Grut, it’s a wild, beer-soaked ride (watch below).
In classic DARTZ style, the video follows Danz, Crispy, Rollyz, and Clark Mathews putting in the hard yards on a Sunday before craving a cold one. Their quest to quench their thirst leads them on a humorous chase after a larger-than-life, anthropomorphic giant bottle of Lion Brown, with Jake Love, AKA Dangerous Day-Lewis, embodying the character of ‘The Beer’.
“What I remember most about this video is that the boys came into the shoot day REAL HOT at each other for some reason, Crispy & Rollyz were almost ready to rumble, I wasn’t happy with Clark, but the professionalism & the chilled out vibe of Dangerous Day-Lewis playing the beer just instantly calmed us down, it was like when that organ player turns up in the Beatles Get Back movie,” recalls lead singer Danz. “I will probably remember shooting this video as one of the most dangerous days of my life.”
Rolling Stone AU/NZ gave Dangerous Day to Be a Cold One (Flying Nun Records) a well-deserved four stars, praising the band for their “great wit, honest storytelling, and effortless ensemble work.”
As they gear up for their upcoming shows, it’s clear that DARTZ’s raucous punk rock anthems are best experienced live, surrounded by a fervent crowd. And for DARTZ, rowdiness is simply part of the package.
DARTZ’s Dangerous Day to Be a Cold One is out now via Flying Nun Records.
