Barely a week after debuting at number two on the ARIA albums chart (just behind Taylor Swift) with their latest album, Like Nirvana, Brisbane’s Cub Sport are set to perform the record in full via a YouTube performance this weekend.

Their fourth album, Like Nirvana serves as a blissful continuation of the sound that Cub Sport had already created, while frontperson Tim Nelson shared some of their most personal lyrics to date.

“It’s always scary to be completely vulnerable, but I think I’ve learnt that there’s a lot of power in it, and when you’re really open with what you’re going through and what you’re feeling, most people are kind once they have the context,” Nelson explained in an interview with Rolling Stone.

“It’s definitely something I find easier as I go on, and I feel like I’m building my courage all the time. I think after feeling like I had to hide myself for so long, now being able to be fully myself and to keep exploring that and learning more about who I am and everything, it’s just like a freedom I hadn’t experienced before. So now I’m all in, basically.”

Now, with the record receiving widespread acclaim across the board (including top spots on the ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart, the Australian Artists Albums Chart, the AIR 100% Independent Albums Chart, and the Independent Label Albums Chart), Cub Sport are set to perform the album in full this weekend, appearing on YouTube at 8pm AEST (6am EST, 11am BST) on Sunday, August 23rd.

“Bringing Like Nirvana to life in the live setting feels like magic,” Nelson explained. “When we shot this performance, I could feel that connectedness, that ‘in the zone’ feeling from shows that I’d been missing so much. I’m excited for viewers to experience that feeling too.”

Cub Sport will also be utilising YouTube’s Super Chat monetisation feature, with donations going to Black Rainbow – a non-profit social enterprise that is 100% Indigenous owned and operated, which serves as a national advocacy platform and touchpoint for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTQI) peoples.
