Two of the biggest names in Australian music have joined forces in an unexpected way, with Crowded House sharing the Tame Impala remix of their recent single, “To the Island”.
Originally released in early February, “To the Island” serves as the second single from Crowded House’s forthcoming album – their first in 11 years – Dreamers Are Waiting. Just last month, the group celebrated the completion of a New Zealand tour by releasing an alternate video for the single, focusing on Irish couple Eddie & Elsie and follows the titular couple, showcasing their commitment to each other as lifelong partners.
Now, they’ve shared a remixed version of the track featuring the talents of Kevin Parker of Tame Impala. Reworking the breezy pop-rock number into a haunting, electronica-infused number, it breathes new life into the track and shows a side of Crowded House that they themselves likely weren’t aware existed.
“With all the world upended and nothing in its right place we became curious to hear how our favourite contemporary musicians and record makers might reimagine a Crowded House song,” Neil Finn explained.
“I emailed our version of ‘To The Island’ to Kevin Parker (Tame Impala) with an invitation to take it apart and reassemble in his own unique way. Happily, he really liked the song and it was an absolute delight to hear what he made from it , an exotic fantasy I would call it.”
The Tame Impala remix of “To the Island” is also set to be released as a 7″ vinyl single, backed by a previously-unreleased remix of the track by Unknown Mortal Orchestra,
The Tame Impala remix of Crowded House’s “To The Island” is out now, with pre-orders available now for the vinyl release. The group’s new album, Dreamers Are Waiting, will be released on June 4th via EMI, with pre-orders available now.
