More than ten years on from the release of their last record, beloved Australian outfit Crowded House have returned with “To The Island”, the latest taste of their newly-announced album, Dreamers Are Waiting.

Making their long-awaited return with new material last year by way of “Whatever You Want”, Crowded House raised questions as to whether a new album would be arriving in the future. Now, with the release of “To The Island”, it has been confirmed that 2021 will see the ARIA Hall of Famers release their seventh album this June.

Arriving just weeks ahead of the start of their ‘To The Island’ tour of New Zealand, founding member Neil Finn explains that the track – which features Nick Seymour along with producer and keyboardist Mitchell Froom, guitarist and singer Liam Finn and his younger brother, drummer Elroy Finn – showcases the fresh way that the veteran outfit have begun to approach music.

“I’ve always been afraid of just repeating the same formulas, and somehow this feels like a fresh and authentic way to re-approach Crowded House today with an awareness of all our history and where, how and why it began in the first place,” Finn explains.

“The original band mentality and philosophy in still in there, especially with Mitchell now part of it again, working in a different way along with Nick and I.”

“To The Island” is set to appear on Dreamers Are Waiting when it arrives in June of this year. Though Finn has spent the last few years as a member of Fleetwood Mac, the New Zealand-born artist had previously hinted at new music, revealing in 2019 that he was embarking on “another chapter of Crowded House”, though specifics remained unmentioned.

“We were fortunate to be recording in the studio right before lockdown and so began this album with band tracks recorded live in a room, all brimming with character and energy,” Finn explains.

“We then spent our strangest year, 2020, at distance from each other but connecting daily, swapping files and making those tracks complete. We’re so excited and grateful to be back in one room together now, rehearsing, first to play live in front of audiences in NZ and soon we hope for the rest of the world.”

Crowded House have also shared the Neil Finn-directed clip for “To The Island”, while their New Zealand tour of the same name will begin in early March. Currently, there is no word in regard to an Australian leg of the tour.

Crowded House’s “To The Island” is out now, while Dreamers Are Waiting will be released on June 4th via EMI, with pre-orders available now.
