Just one day after wrapping up their tour of New Zealand, Crowded House have unveiled the new clip to their latest single, “To the Island”.
The new video is described as the “Eddie & Elsie edition” and follows the titular Irish couple, showcasing their commitment to each other as lifelong partners.
“A friend of Nick’s, brilliant Irish filmmaker Myles O’Reilly has made a beautiful short with our new song ‘To the Island’ as a soundtrack,” explained Neil Finn in an accompanying statement.
“It introduces an inspiring couple, lifelong partners Eddie and Elsie with wise words about love, nature and dreams. It’s so hopeful and tender. We should take their words and their world to heart.”
Crowded House released the original Neil Finn-directed video to “To the Island” last month alongside the announcement of their first album in 11 years, Dreamers Are Waiting.
In a statement released alongside the single, Finn explained that the track – which features Nick Seymour along with producer and keyboardist Mitchell Froom, guitarist and singer Liam Finn and his younger brother, drummer Elroy Finn – showcases the fresh way that the veteran outfit have begun to approach music.
“I’ve always been afraid of just repeating the same formulas, and somehow this feels like a fresh and authentic way to re-approach Crowded House today with an awareness of all our history and where, how and why it began in the first place,” Finn explains.
“The original band mentality and philosophy in still in there, especially with Mitchell now part of it again, working in a different way along with Nick and I.”
Crowded House’s “To The Island” is out now, while Dreamers Are Waiting will be released on June 4th via EMI, with pre-orders available now.
