Take a bow, Confidence Man.

The electronic-pop masters are crowned Best Live Act at the second annual Rolling Stone UK Awards, presented Thursday, November 28th at London’s Roundhouse.

Hailing from Brisbane, Confidence Man – or ConMan to their fans and family – have earned their envious live reputation through relentless touring in the UK and Europe, and delivering the goods on every occasion.

ConMan waved the flag for their homeland with a spot on the Other Stage at the 2024 Glastonbury Festival — and not for the first time.

“We’ve got good news, (producer) Reggie Goodchild has been released on bail,” Sugar Bones quipped during ConMan’s Rolling Stone UK Awards acceptance speech. “And he’ll be here for the performance later.”

Bones and fellow vocalist Janet Planet gave the audience more than they bargain for when they completed their stint at the podium with an energetic kiss.

“Sorry mum,” Planet remarked.

As promised, ConMan returned to the stage for a pumping performance of “I Can’t Lose You”, lifted from their third and latest album 3AM (LA LA LA), an end-to-end party record that reawakens UK rave sounds of the ‘90s and 2000s. In October, 3AM (LA LA LA) opened and peaked at No. 9 on the Official UK Albums Chart – their best chart performance in that market.

In Australia, ConMan earned nominations for a trio of trophies at the 2024 ARIA Awards, in the categories for Best Dance / Electronic Release and Best Video (both for “I CAN’T LOSE YOU” via I OH YOU/Mushroom Music), and Best Australian Lve Act (for Laneway Festival).

Hosted by Jayde Adams, the Rolling Stone UK Awards unveiled winners in 14 categories, including Nile Rodgers (the Global Icon Award), Brooke Combe (the Play Next Award), Chase & Status and Stormzy (the Song of the Year Award for “Backbone”), Ezra Collective (the Group Award) and more.

ConMan will stay put for the next week or so; their tour of the UK and Ireland will come to a stop December 10th at Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre, with a fresh run of Australia dates to follow later in the month.

Sugar Bones and Janet Planet keep the party going in the pages of Rolling Stone AU/NZ, for a special Musicians on Musicians feature with veteran British electronic music act Orbital. The MoM issue hits newsstands December 12th.
