New York experimental pop project Chanel Beads will make its Australian live debut this June, with performances confirmed for Vivid Sydney, RISING Melbourne and a Brisbane headline show.

The project of musician Shane Lavers first turned heads with the 2024 debut album Your Day Will Come, a hazy, emotionally charged record that blends post-punk textures, warped electronics and unexpectedly tender pop moments.

Those songs will receive their first live Australian outing across three dates, beginning at the Oxford Art Factory as part of Vivid Sydney on Friday, June 5th. The tour then heads to Melbourne Town Hall on Saturday, June 6th for the Day Tripper program within RISING Melbourne, before wrapping with a headline show at The Brightside in Brisbane on Sunday, June 7th.

Tickets for the Vivid Sydney performance are already on sale. Pre-sale tickets for RISING Melbourne open tomorrow at 12pm AEDT, with general sale beginning Monday, March 16th. The Brisbane headline show, presented by Handsome Tours, will also launch pre-sale tomorrow, with general tickets available Friday, March 13th at 9am AEDT.

Released in 2024, Your Day Will Come quickly established Chanel Beads as an artist pushing at the edges of genre. Across singles like “Police Scanner” and “Embarrassed Dog,” Lavers pieces together hazy post-punk sonics, sentimental pop instincts and ghostly electronic textures, often allowing songs to unfold through unconventional structures that build toward unexpectedly emotional climaxes.

The album explores the strange contradictions of modern life, particularly the way identity and memory are shaped by the digital world. Lavers has described intentionally printing his songs down to capture what he calls “fried artifacts and ghostly remains,” giving the music a warped, time-collapsing quality that feels both fleeting and strangely timeless.

The record also wrestles with themes of grief and personal loss, experiences that deeply shaped the way Lavers approached the project. That emotional core helped the album resonate widely across independent music circles, earning praise from outlets including Pitchfork, PAPER and Crack Magazine, which described the record as “complex, melancholic music that intentionally resists being placed in time.”

In Australia, the album also found support across the community radio landscape, landing airplay and feature spots on stations including fbi.radio, triple j, 3RRR and PBS FM.

On stage, Lavers expands the Chanel Beads project through a small but carefully assembled collaborative circle. Regular contributors include singer-songwriter Maya McGory and experimental violinist Zachary Paul, whose classically trained background adds another layer of texture to the project’s already fluid sound.

The group has spent the past year steadily building its live reputation, touring across the UK and North America, appearing at major festivals including SXSW and Pitchfork Music Festival, and opening shows for artists such as Lorde and Mount Kimbie.

With the Australian dates now confirmed, local audiences will get their first chance to experience the project live as Your Day Will Come continues its slow, word-of-mouth expansion across the global indie landscape.
