Britney Spears has seemingly deactivated her Instagram account. The singer’s 12-year-old account, published under the handle @britneyspears, now directs visitors to an error page, noting, “The link may be broken, or the profile may have been removed.” Her X account remains active.
The Instagram deactivation comes after the pop singer posted a series of responses to her ex-husband Kevin Federline‘s recent memoir, You Thought You Knew. The tell-all book, released in October, recounts the couple’s tumultuous relationship, including their marriage in 2004 and their divorce in 2007. Along with an alarming claim that Spears would watch their children sleep with a knife in her hand , Federline wrote: “Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change.” He also claimed she drank while pregnant and did cocaine while breastfeeding.
Spears spoke out against his allegations on X, accusing Federline of “constant gaslighting” that has become “extremely hurtful and exhausting.” She wrote of Federline’s allegations in his memoir, writing, “Trust me, those white lies in that book, they are going straight to the bank and I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here.”
She later shared a second post, writing, “To be loved unconditionally and with a naive heart like mine, always being threatened or made to believe I’m the bad one as they profit off my pain. Oh dear Jesus show me there is a God and I can too be loved unconditionally and not have to be so perfect cause it’s really interesting.”
She added, “I 100 percent beg to differ the way he is literally attacking me in his interviews. If truth be told the man in the interview went STRAIGHT TO the SOURCE and said it CLEAR AS DAY … no money from Britney for 5 years you trying to get paid that’s what general America is saying weird you both have moved on… your kids are adults it’s a different world now … why is HE SO ANGRY … and what’s scary is he’s convincing.”
A rep for Spears added that Federline and others “are profiting off [Spears] and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin.” All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir.”
Fans have voiced concern about recent posts on Spears’ Instagram account, including one from Oct. 7 that showed bruises on Spears’ arms and bandages on her hands and wrists. The singer said the injuries were from a fall “down the stairs at my friend’s house.” A few weeks later, she said she believes she had “brain damage happened to me” while under a 13-year conservatorship. It’s unclear if Spears deactivated the account herself or if it was done by Instagram’s parent company Meta.
