Donald Trump‘s recent unhinged tirades against Bruce Springsteen have inadvertently started to shape the coolest supergroup imaginable. Bono is the latest musician to back Springsteen as the president continues to target the New Jersey legend in response to criticism about his administration. During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the musician was asked who he’s siding with in this pseudo-war, to which he responded: “There’s only one Boss in America.”
Bono found himself in the crossfire earlier this month when Trump threatened to launch an investigation into him — despite him famously not being an American citizen and not participating in the 2024 election — over alleged illegal campaign contributions. The rant Trump published on Truth Social in the dead of the night also named Beyoncé and Oprah Winfrey as culprits. Bono can’t imagine being in better company.
“To be in the company of Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé, and Oprah — I’d play tambourine in that band,” the Irish musician said, adding: “U2 and I have never been paid or played a show to support any candidate from any party. It has never happened. I know that it’s called Truth Social, it seems to be pretty antisocial, and it’s not very true a lot of the time.”
Bono’s response and support comes after artists like Neil Young, Tom Morello, Pearl Jam, and others have shown solidarity with Springsteen. Earlier this month, Springsteen kicked off his 2025 Land of Hope and Dreams European tour in Manchester. During the show, he noted that “the America I love, the America I’ve written about, and has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration.” Trump hasn’t been able to stop melting down over it since.
“Bruce and thousands of musicians think you are ruining America,” Young said in an address to Trump. “You worry about that instead of the dyin’ kids in Gaza. That’s your problem. I am not scared of you. Neither are the rest of us.”
