Girl power has reigned supreme in the 2024 triple J Hottest 100 with several records broken for most votes and appearances in the countdown.
Chappel Roan won this year’s contest with ‘Good Luck, Babe’ saluting at No.1 – ahead of Royel Otis and their Like A Version cover of Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’ at no.2, with 2019’s winner Billie Eilish coming in at no.3 with ‘Birds Of A Feather’.
According to triple J, ‘Good Luck, Babe’ recieved a record-breaking number of votes – the most for a single song in the contest’s 30+ year history. Roan was also the first artist to win the contest with a debut single and with only one eligable track in this year’s countdown.
Aside from Roan, two of the world’s biggest ‘it’ girls also entered the competition’s record books – Billie Eilish and Charli xcx. Both artists had eight entries in this year’s countdown, and now share the record for the most appearances in a single year. They eclipsed homegrown star G-Flip’s previous best of seven entries, which she achieved in 2023.
By placing third, Eilish also broke another record. She now has the most songs in the Hottest 100 of all time – 25 to be precise – suprassing the Hilltop Hoods’ previous best of 24.
