As Big Scary gear up to release their first new album in almost five years next month, the acclaimed duo have shared the second single from the forthcoming record, with “Get Out!” receiving its official release today.
Announcing their new record, Daisy, last month, Big Scary revealed they were doing something a little differently this time around, with the album described as “playful”, while including “plenty of drama, and for the first time, no guitars”.
Pairing the announcement with the release of first single “Stay”, it became clear that Big Scary are continuing to evolve, and that even with a few years off in between, there’s been no change to their desire to release powerful, affecting tunes.
Now, with just over a month to go until the release of Daisy, Big Scary have shared “Get Out!”, a mesmerising cut that serves as an internal conversation aimed at overcoming negative thought patterns.
Haunting and mesmerising, drummer Jo Syme explained that she had been channelling Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” in order to ensure that the choruses would have the same sort of slick, strutting nature. Pairing with bouncing synth and mysterious instrumentation, the result is a majestic taster of what is to come from Big Scary.
“The song is made up of little parts that build on top of each other, and add the magic,” Syme explains. “My favourite bits are these two different wonky synth lines that Tom (Iansek) does in the pre-choruses that for me, completely made the song exciting.”
Big Scary are set to officially release Daisy at the end of April, and there’s currently no word as to whether they will be hitting the road in support of its arrival.
Big Scary’s “Get Out!” is out now, while Daisy will be released on April 30th on Pieater via Inertia Music, with pre-orders available now.
