It was one of the biggest questions heading into Laneway Auckland: who would Role Model bring out as Sally during his set?
The answer, it turned out, was local legend BENEE, who’s also part of the lineup for the travelling festival this year.
Watch Role Model and his latest Sally, who previously worked together on the collaborative single “notice me”, have fun onstage together yesterday below.

Role Model has previously recruited big-name artists to play the part of Sally.
Charli XCX filled the role during Role Model’s SNL debut last year, receiving a rapturous response from the late-night show’s audience.
Celebrating its 21st anniversary, this year’s Laneway also features headlining act Chappell Roan, PinkPantheress, Wet Leg, BENEE, Gigi Perez, Wolf Alice, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, and more on the bill.
Alongside the likes of Alex G, Geese, and Cavetown, BENEE is playing several sideshows to go with her Laneway appearance. Fans can catch her next week at Sydney’s Liberty Hall on Wednesday (February 11th), Torquay Hotel on Friday (February 14th), and 170 Russell in Melbourne on Saturday (February 15th).
In an interview with Rolling Stone AU/NZ about her new album last year, BENEE looked ahead to a busy start to 2026, including her Laneway slot.
When asked if she used to head to the beloved festival when she was younger, BENEE quickly responded, “I did.”
“It is definitely one of my favourite festivals ever, so I am, beyond excited to be playing that again, and I just can’t wait,” she continued. “It’s just been so long since I’ve played any shows.”
BENEE also teased a New Zealand tour, which will be music to her Kiwi fans’ ears.
“It’d be so rude not to. I haven’t announced it yet, but I am gonna be doing a big album tour, and of course New Zealand and Australia will be a part of that,” she revealed.
