Balu Brigada have opened a new creative chapter with new single, “So Cold”.
The bass-driven song follows the band of brothers’ 2023 EP Find a Way, which amassed over 15M global streams through hits such as “Designer” and “2Good”, and the title track.
Balu Brigada’s latest is “about tripping up on all the subtleties of the dating game,” they say.
“It’s the realisation that there’s a lot of smoke and mirrors when it comes to attraction, and that a lot of things that feel like ‘mystique’ when you’ve got beer goggles on, are actually just someone being elusive,” they add.
Balu Brigada were named as one of our 5 Must-See Artists at the Cross St Music Festival earlier this year.
“Kiwi alt-pop duo Balu Brigada will undoubtedly bring the boogie to Cross Street. Now based in New York City, the band of brothers are returning home for the festival slot, with a shiny new EP under their belts for homegrown crowds,” we wrote.
“The multi-instrumentalists – Henry and Pierre Beasley – released their genre-hopping six-track collection EP, Find a Way, last July, which includes viral sensation “Designer”, the title track, and the moody “OH! Not Again”. Fans can expect a mix of their classic hits and maybe even some new music from this talented duo.”
In 2023, Balu Brigada came back to their home country for a run of headline shows to celebrate Find a Way, with a couple of shows in Australia thrown in for good measure.
Balu Brigada’s most recent EP’s title was a “bittersweet mantra” for the Beasley brothers.
“Whether it was ‘find a way to get to America’ or ‘find a way to maintain a long-distance relationship’ or even just ‘find a way to be present and happy,’ our career so far has been a series of step-by-step moments that have led us closer to our dream of writing and playing music across the world. Neither of us are big planners so we’ve had to learn to trust our instincts and take things one step at a time, even if we don’t know what the following two steps are,” they explained at the time.
Balu Brigada’s “So Cold” is out now via Atlantic Records.
