Bachelor Girl aren’t just revisiting one of their most beloved songs — they’re handing it over to a new voice, and letting it evolve.
The Australian pop duo have released a reimagined version of their 1998 single “Treat Me Good”, featuring Jessica Mauboy, marking the first taste of Waiting For The Day: Artist Sessions, a redux project that sees a roster of Australian artists reinterpret tracks from their debut album.
Due in June, the album has grown into a full-circle collaboration between generations of Australian artists.
“We (somewhat audaciously!) began to ask some of our favourite Aussie artists and friends if they would lend their voices and/or instrument to our bucket list project,” Tania Doko says. “What started with one, became 13 artists on this 15 track Redux album, and we could not be more chuffed they enthusiastically said yes.”
Alongside the release, Bachelor Girl have also announced a national tour, kicking off at Melbourne’s Brunswick Ballroom on August 8th, before heading through Brisbane and Adelaide, and wrapping in Sydney at The Factory Theatre on October 18th.
Originally appearing on Waiting for the Day in 1998, “Treat Me Good” was always rooted in self-worth. That core hasn’t changed — but the emotional scope has widened with Mauboy’s involvement.
“Treat Me Good was written three decades ago, and we *still mean it. It’s been reinvigorating to create this full circle moment,” Doko says. “Jess Mauboy’s contribution is the prize here, with the song now taking on an added sisterhood narrative — standing for the self, AND each other. It’s humbling to learn how much the song meant to Jess, from her busking Bachelor Girl tunes in Darwin, to singing her face off with us in the studio while seven months pregnant with Mia. It’s a ‘pinch us’ moment all round.”

For James Roche, the impact of hearing Mauboy step into the track was immediate.
“The first twenty seconds of Jess opening her mouth to sing was gob smacking,” he says. “We all looked like the kid from ‘Home Alone’.”
Mauboy’s connection to Bachelor Girl runs deep.
Long before the studio session, she was already singing their songs.
“Treat Me Good has always been one of those songs that instantly takes you back,” she says. “I grew up hearing Bachelor Girl on the radio, so getting the chance to re-record such an iconic Australian song with them felt really special. What I love most about it is how real it feels, its message about respect and love still resonates today. Recording this new version together was a beautiful way to honour the heart of the original while sharing that emotion with a whole new generation.”
It’s another milestone moment for Mauboy, whose career has spanned nearly two decades and includes multiple ARIA Awards, six Top 10 albums, and more than 30 Platinum and Gold accreditations. From The Sapphires to The Voice Australia, and her 2025 induction into the NIMAs Hall of Fame, she remains one of the country’s most enduring artists.
For Bachelor Girl, the redux project doubles as both a celebration and a reinvention. Since breaking through with “Buses and Trains” — which won APRA Song of the Year in 1999 — the duo have maintained a quiet but steady legacy, with Waiting for the Day spawning a string of enduring singles including “Lucky Me”, “Blown Away”, and “Permission to Shine”.
“Treat Me Good” featuring Jessica Mauboy is out now.
