Close to four years since the release of her latest full-length record, Aussie producer and DJ extraordinaire Alison Wonderland has announced her forthcoming album, Loner.
Set for release on May 6th, Loner serves as the critically-acclaimed producer’s third record, following on from 2018’s Awake, which gave her a second-straight chart-topping album on the US Dance charts.
Having shared numerous songs across the last few years, Loner comes accompanied by new single “New Day”. Arriving after Alison – like most of us – emerged from a period of darkness, the single is described as the sound of Alison “falling in love with life and the potential each day holds” as she mixes acoustic and ambient elements to create the stunning track.
Fittingly, “New Day” heralds the start of a new era for Alison Wonderland. After massive and unstoppable success in recent years, both here and abroad, the advent of the global pandemic suddenly put a stop to any sort of momentum. Thus, after years spent on the move and surrounded by people, Alison found herself in a period of stasis, alone.
“My life was going a certain way before something pulled everything out from under me,” she explains. “It left me entirely alone, and it all happened around the same time as COVID. I felt like I had hit my rock bottom.”
Not content to let the darkness win, Alison returned to music as a way to move forward and begun the initial stages of her third record. With time on her hands, she looked back towards her previous records, drawing inspiration from where she’s been to work out where she’s going.
“I realised that I have always seen myself as the victim of my story,” she explains. “This time, something shifted in me, and I decided that I didn’t want to be the victim anymore. Instead, whatever I wrote from here would empower me, and help me find strength in this loneliness.”
“For me, Loner felt like a rebirth,” she adds. “I owe it to whoever else is out there who was like me, wishing that they had an album like this to empower them to feel less alone and know that it’s all going to be okay one day.”
Set for release on May 6th, Loner also features previously-released singles such as “Bad Things”, “FUCK U LOVE U”, and “Fear of Dying”.
