To coincide with the announcement of her first project since 2022, Alex the Astronaut has released new single, “If You Have to Go.”
Written during Troye Sivan’s WorldPride writing camp last year, the musician – real name Alexandra Lynn – recalls penning the emotional single on the fourth day of camp, which is the first release from her upcoming EP.
“It’s either a perfect thing or a really bad thing if you make a whole room of people cry. By the end of the three minutes of ‘If You Have to Go,’ Troye and my campmates had all welled up – so I guessed we were onto something,” she reveals.
Released with a Sam Watson-Wood-shot music video filmed in the Blue Mountains, “If You Have to Go” gives fans a sneak peak into her new EP, Rage and All Its Friends.
Set for release on Friday, November 22nd, Rage and All Its Friends is set to be the artist’s most personal release thus far, serving as the follow-up to her 2022 ARIA-nominated album, How to Grow a Sunflower Underwater.
“For a long time, I felt like a sad, cranky mess,” says Alex. “This EP is about processing all those big emotions that were too overwhelming to ignore. It’s everything I have to say on the matter right now, and I hope it resonates with anyone who’s been through something similar.”
Rage and All Its Friends will be six tracks long, seeing Alex collaborate with childhood hero Paul Kelly (who she collaborated previously with on “Cold Pizza”), childhood friend Lisa Mitchell, and British singer Benjamin Francis Leftwich.
The EP will touch on personal topics such as Alex’s journey with identity, her late autism diagnosis, and the intense high and low emotions that came during this period of her life.
Additionally, she’ll be performing on October 25th at The Act in Newcastle, on November 7th at Sydney’s Lansdowne Hotel, and the following night at The Night Cat in Fitzroy, Melbourne. Ticket information is available here.
