With co-signs from the likes of BNYX, Zaytoven, and Ski Mask the Slump God, plus collaborations with Trippie Redd and skaiwater, 9lives is living the dream of any young producer.

The Melbourne-born, Hawkes Bay-raised producer has amassed a bucketload of online chatter and early success, earning him the tag as the “Metro Boomin of the underground.”

Expectations, then, are clearly high for the creative.

Dropping today, his latest release “I Did It”, alongside Atlanta’s Anycia and viral singer Kanii, should continue the crazy run he’s been on recently, which has seen him cut and release music with the likes of Lil Nas X and Lancey Foux.

Combining elements of emo and trap with electronic and hyperpop, 9lives is considered a leading figure amongst the new wave of hip hop producers.

“This song is a mood boost,” says 9lives of the new tune. “Kanii and I were in Noise Nest Studios in L.A., and Kanii went live on Twitch — so we were actually live with fans when we made the record, which was a special moment. I first met Anycia earlier this year in Atlanta, and I knew her nonchalant, laid-back delivery would be perfect for the song.”

“I Did It” adds to the long list of recent personal wins for 9lives. Aside from the starry lineup of collaborations, and the streaming successes for 2023’s “I LOVE YOU H*E” and “Go (Xtayalive 2),” he recently signed to PULSE Records.

It’s set to be a big year for 9lives, and doesn’t appear likely he’ll take his foot off the accelerator anytime soon.
