The nominees for the 2024 APRA Silver Scroll Award | Kaitito Kaiaka have been revealed.
APRA AMCOS NZ today announced the top 20 songs nominated for Aotearoa’s most prestigious songwriting competition. The top 20 was decided upon by a panel of APRA members made up of respected songwriters, producers, and performers, including country star Tami Neilson and 2024 Aotearoa Music Awards winner Amelia Berry (Amamelia).
Established artists such as Stan Walker, Aaaradhna, Louis Baker, and Jordan Rakei have earned nominations, as have up-and-coming talent including MOHI, Luca George, and alayna.

The top five waiata nominated for the APRA Maioha Award | Tohu Maioha have also been revealed today, decided upon by a panel of judges selected for their knowledge and understanding of waiata reo Māori/waiata reo rua and the current landscape of Māori composition and songwriting.
Stan Walker is again recognised, earning two slots in the top five, where he will face competition from TAWAZ, Jordyn with a Why, and Hawkins ft. Maria Te Aukaha Huata.
“The APRA Silver Scroll is a particularly prestigious honour, as the recognition of your peers is a special celebration indeed,” says Anthony Healey, Head of APRA AMCOS Aotearoa. “The songs shortlisted here reflect the masterful talent of songwriters and storytellers from Aotearoa whose work is being heard not just at home but all around the globe. These waiata represent our unique voices in the world and it’s a privilege and honour to celebrate them.”
New Zealand’s APRA members will now vote for their favourite songs/waiata in each category, with voting closing before midnight on Monday, July 24th.
The winners will then be announced at the APRA Silver Scroll Awards on Tuesday, October 8th, at Wellington’s St James Theatre.
Last year’s Silver Scroll Award was won by The Beths for “Expert in a Dying Field”, while MOHI was given the Maioha Award for “‘Me Pēhea Rā”, co-written with Hēmi Kelly, Amy Boroevich (HINA), and produced by Noema Te Hau III.
