Welcome back, ZED.

The Christchurch pop-rock band, an impressive force in Aotearoa music at the turn of the century when their first two albums  – 2000’s Silencer and 2003’s This Little Empire – both reached the top five on the New Zealand Albums Chart, returned last month with announcement of a new single and national tour.

In celebration of “Future You”, ZED will head to Mount Maunganui, Auckland, Raglan, Leigh, Wellington, their hometown, Dunedin, and Queenstown through November and December (see full dates below), bringing fan favourites including “Hard to Find Her” and “Renegade Fighter” to Kiwi crowds.

They’ll also, of course, play their new single, and you can watch the accompanying music video for “Future You” for the first time below. Directed by Mikee Carpinter, the clip features animation from Lukas Kelly.

What does the new era of ZED sound like? “Think laid back summer cocktails in the sun with ZED grooving in the background. It’s uplifting and infectious, a bit of old meets new, and a positive message looking towards the possibilities and excitement of a future together with someone whilst also living in the now and creating our ‘Future Memories’,” according to the band.

In even more exciting news for fans of the band, “Future You” is the first taste of a new album, which doesn’t have an official release date yet.

“‘Future You’ was probably one of the first true writing collaborations between the whole band, which had paved a new way of working together and set the tone for the remaining tracks we recorded to finish the album,” bassist Ben Campbell says. “It’s exciting to be making and releasing music with Zed again after a 20-year hiatus, the unique skills and personalities that make up a band dynamic; there’s nothing else quite like it.”

ZED’s “Future You” is out now.
