In a bid to continue championing Australia’s female-identifying and non-binary brewers, Young Henrys is gearing up to choose a winner for the next Young Henrys Brewing Scholarship. In partnership with TAFE NSW, Young Henrys will fund one individual’s Certificate III Food Processing (Micro Brewing).
The partnership was announced to celebrate International Women’s Day and will also see the lucky recipient receive quarterly mentoring from Young Henrys’ very own in-house legends. Fronting the mentorship team are Young Henrys’ Head Distiller Carla Daunton along with Zoe Catterall from the Young Henrys Lab, and Mariel Santiago from the Young Henrys brew house.
“The craft beer industry is a pretty fun and exciting place to be. It’s full of open-minded and interesting people but still has a way to go with regard to gender diversity,” says Young Henrys co-founder Oscar McMahon.
“The Young Henrys Brewers Scholarship is our way of trying to show women (this includes all who identify as women) who may have considered a career in the brewing industry that we want you here, that there are great careers and workplaces waiting for you and that we truly believe the industry will be all the better for it.”
And, that’s not all. Young Henrys’ newest brewing protégé will also be decked out in fresh YH threads plus a pair of Blundstone boots with the total value of the scholarship exceeding $10K.
If that doesn’t convince you to take the plunge, just ask last year’s winner, Laura Nosworthy.
“As a community we can continue to break the stigma by having more engagement with the female/non binary community through events, artist sponsorship, social media exposure and always ensuring that there are equal opportunities for all genders,” says Nosworthy. “If other’s continue to see and feel the inclusivity, I think we will continue to see more people willing to give it a crack.”
