Aussies Guy Sebastian and Kate Miller-Heidke Take on US Coaches in the New Season of ‘The Voice’

'The Voice' returns to Channel 7 and 7plus this month for a season filled with fierce competition and high stakes

In Partnership with The Voice

As the 2024 season of The Voice returns to Channel 7 and 7plus tonight for a season filled with fierce competition and high stakes, viewers will be treated to the wisdom and infectious charisma of award-winning Australian singer-songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke and returning coach, multi-platinum-selling artist Guy Sebastian.

The two will be joined by award-winning singer-songwriter LeAnn Rimes and GRAMMY-nominated international artist, actor, philanthropist, and LGBTQ+ activist Adam Lambert.

This Australia vs US rivalry on the coaching panel is sure to add a layer of drama to the show, with Miller-Heidke and Sebastian’s deep-rooted understanding of the Aussie music scene sure to give them the edge on the competition. But will it be enough? Only time will tell.

Before it all kicks off, let’s meet our Aussie coaches once more, and to understand a little more about what’s driving them to be the best coach they can be this season.

Guy Sebastian: An Aussie Icon Returns

In a sentence

A famed singer-songwriter and producer, Guy Sebastian is undeniably one of this country’s most successful Australian artists of his generation.

Best known for

Sebastian first exploded through our TV sets and into our hearts as winner of the inaugural season of Australian Idol in 2003. He is the only Australian artist to achieve six number one singles. Sebastian was also the first-ever Australian contestant at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest. Guy Sebastian has been a coach on The Voice since 2019.

Coaching style

If anyone knows how to compete and thrive in a singing competition, it’s Sebastian. Returning to The Voice for the sixth season in a row, he’s a reliable veteran of the format, and also someone who knows what it feels like to be standing on that stage, trying to impress discerning judges. It’s this experience that makes Sebastian an immediately relatable presence to any contestant. When they’re performing well, he’ll know how to spur them on; when they’re at a low point, he’ll know how to pick them back up again.

Fans can look forward to

Sebastian’s keen ear for talent, combined with his years of Australian music industry experience, mean he has invaluable advice to offer to contestants. Just like his fellow coach Lambert, the fact he was also discovered on a singing show means he’s well equipped to guide contestants through the ups and downs of the process.

Kate Miller-Heidke: A Woman of Mystery

In a sentence

Kate Miller-Heidke is an Australian singer-songwriter known for her distinctive voice, eclectic musical style, and innovative approach to pop and opera. In contrast to Sebastian’s familiar face, Miller-Heidke brings a touch of mystery and intrigue to this season of The Voice.

Best known for

Captivating audiences for years with her stunning vocals and genre-hopping ability. Classically trained, Miller-Heidke has also proved herself in pop, alternative, and folk music. She’s been nominated for 17 ARIA awards, penned hits like “Caught in the Crowd” and “The Last Night on Earth,” and is the only person to have performed at Coachella, the New York Metropolitan Opera, and Eurovision.

Coaching style

Owing to her wealth of experience in multiple genres, don’t expect Miller-Heidke to be a traditionalist. She likes to experiment sonically, and will try to integrate new ideas into her artists’ performance styles. She’s honest and empathetic, two qualities always admired in a coach of any kind.

Fans can look forward to

Miller-Heidke’s banter with the other coaches and friendly rivalry with the US coaches adds a layer of excitement to the show.

As The Voice heads into its 13th season, fans won’t want to miss Sebastian’s stylish mentorship and Miller-Heidke’s captivating presence, proving that while the competition may be global, the heart of the show remains deeply local.

The Voice starts 7.30pm tonight on Seven and 7plus. Can’t wait? Check out a sneak peak of what to expect this season here.
