The Kid LAROI’s latest single finds him at his most emotionally vulnerable yet, delivering heartfelt lyrics over another earworm hook.
Written by LAROI and produced by KBeazy, the 22-year-old announced the surprise single via social media last week, before releasing it on Friday (September 5th).
It immediately stirred speculation that it was inspired by his rumoured split with fellow pop star Tate McRae, with clearly raw and heartfelt lyrics: “I hope you know you were appreciated / Around my house, I still got up all of our pictures, baby, mm / ’Cause I still love you, that’s how I feel at my core / Flew different states to come see you in between tour / I gave you everything I had and even more.”
“A COLD PLAY” is LAROI’s fifth single of 2025, following “ALL I WANT IS YOU”, “HOW DOES IT FEEL?” with Thundercat, “HOT GIRL PROBLEMS”, and last month’s release, “SHE DON’T NEED TO KNOW”.
The rapper and singer also appeared on ONEFOUR’s new album, featuring on the single “Distant Strangers” alongside UK artist Imogen Heap, as well as Bailey Zimmerman’s single “Lost”.
LAROI, clearly, is a force to be reckoned with.
In 2021 he became the youngest Australian solo artist to lead the ARIA Album Charts, when F*ck Love (Savage) went to No. 1. He has since worked with major artists including Justin Bieber, Tate McRae, Central Cee, Miley Cyrus, and Machine Gun Kelly. Meanwhile, his 2023 album The First Time landed at No. 68 on Rolling Stone AU/NZ‘s 100 Best Australian Albums of the 2020s So Far.

Last year, he dropped “APEROL SPRITZ” and “GIRLS”, which was hailed as a Song of the Summer contender, “Heaven,” a “BABY I’M BACK” remix with Gunna, and “STILL YOURS”, the latter of which featured on his Prime Video documentary, Kids Are Growing Up: A Story About a Kid Named LAROI.
In the documentary, he spoke candidly about his mental health struggles, and the ups and downs of his profession.
LAROI took his vulnerability one step further recently, partnering with a not-for-profit for a campaign encouraging people to destigmatise mental health and find support. The public service announcement video is airing in AMC Theatres across North America in support of Project Healthy Minds, a free mental health marketplace.
