Teenage Dads have closed out a monumental month with the release of a new single, “Tale of a Man”.
The indie rock band were named the Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist at the 2023 ARIA Awards, despite facing strong competition from grentperez, Royel Otis, and more.
It was the reward for Teenage Dads’ huge year, which included the release of their well-received Midnight Driving EP in March.
And they’re finishing their year in style with the release of “Tale of a Man”, the ideal jangly anthem for summertime.
“‘Tale of a Man’ is about your favourite friend,” explains vocalist Jordan,” and the loving and adventurous relationship the you share, and the challenges you face due to periods of separation. “In spite of this you remain invested in your future together, as you lie in wait for wha lies ahead for you both.”
The accompanying music video effortlessly captures that sense of fun and adventure, and continues the band’s recent run of enjoyable music clips.
“It only felt right to capture that but in a fairytale fashion,” they say. “The tale follows four friends who evade a monster across baron fields, coastlines, and seas all in search of their dream destination, Paris.”
Rather than Paris, Teenage Dads took to Mornington Peninsula to film the video. “We shot the video really close to home, however these places that we’ve grown up in suddenly felt fantastical once we were clothed in real chain mail. It really felt like a step back in time,” they add.
Elsewhere this year, Teenage Dads were one of the secret headliners at The Courtyard Presented by Rolling Stone at the inaugural SXSW Sydney. After playing a whopping 94 shows across 10 different countries and three different continents in 2023 alone, they already have several shows lined up next year, including an appearance at Laneway Festival.
