“I wanted to write something that hit the feels but got people yelling at the top of their lungs,” bassist Alex Flynn Taylor says

Stormy-Lou come out swinging on “Falls Away.”

This charging rock anthem lays bare the Adelaide band’s struggles with seasonal depression and troubled relationships.

Drawing inspiration from Australian rockers like Sly Withers, Carla Geneve, and Gang of Youths, “Falls Away” serves as a stellar introduction to their upcoming debut EP, See Ya, Love Ya, Bye!, set to drop in February of next year.

Bassist Alex Flynn Taylor sheds light on the writing process: “When I wrote the song, I was living alone during winter and emotionally spent. I wanted to write something that hit the feels but at the same time, got people yelling at the top of their lungs.”

“I was definitely inspired by a lot of music and lyrics from Sly Withers and Carla Geneve who are super skilled at tapping into melancholy goodness with an edge that absolutely rips through ya. Our producer Cin [Lucinda Machin] definitely used those artists (particularly their shared song ‘Lately’) to influence the mix and give it that driving feel.”

“There’s a fair bit of romantic stuff in here which just flew out of my head but the second verse is about my dad and I really spent time trying to cook something heavy-hitting. People can read the song however they like and I want them too – if it’s romantic to them, that’s dope – but I wrote this about my mental health and I hope people see that personal side too.”

“Also, don’t get too used to hearing my voice on Stormy-Lou tracks, Mik will still be front and centre. It just felt right for me to tell this particular story.”

The accompanying music video, directed by Port Adelaide’s Eve Burner, brings the song’s gloomy magic to life, shot in the local area (watch above).

On the live front, Stormy-Lou are celebrating their new single with a Halloween Extravaganza at The Crown and Anchor Hotel, a South Australian Music Hall of Fame inductee, on October 31st. The show also marks the recent ‘saving’ of the venue, featuring Halloween dress-ups and performances from The Toothpicks (Gadigal/Sydney) and Perfect 50 (Kaurna/Adelaide).
