Somber Hills is keeping the new music coming.
The Kiwi-turned-Sydney artist – Lukas Martin if you’re wondering – has been steadily shifting from his pop-punk roots into the pop realm.
Fresh off last month’s breezy summer bop “Vacancy” with Jeida Woods, he’s now back with another collaboration, this time with Melbourne’s Mitch Palmer on “BURN WHEN IT’S OVER.”
The track’s an upbeat, catchy pop cut, playing with glitchy beats and reverbed vocals that’ll get stuck in your head.
On Instagram, Martin wrote: “Wrote this hard n fast last time bro came to Sydney & I’ve been waiting to get this out ever since. Mitch thank you for blessing this one, you killed it. “You could run away, but you never will. I’m the cure to your sickness you’re forever ill. Put it in reverse, that’s the way I see it. I’m the curse, what you feel’s misleading.” it’s gonna burn when it’s over.”

With a support slot for A$AP Ferg, two UK tours, and a string of his own shows across Australia and New Zealand, Martin is carving out his place in the scene.
Last year, he dropped his 2024 EP K*LL Me When I’m Happy, which included singles like “Not There”, “I’m Sure You’ve Heard”, and “Joker” (ft. BLESSED).
“Somber Hills knows how to make a catchy track. The alt-rock newcomer’s latest EP adds three strong, melodic pop-punk songs to his growing repertoire, and he’s clearly just getting started,” we wrote in our weekly NZ music roundup.
2023 also saw two EPs: where’s my guitar and Pain Station.
Describing his sound to Tone Deaf in 2023, he said: “To be fair, I’d just say it’s kinda like rock music but also rap music with some beep bop noises in there too!”
“It might be a rudimentary description, but the music Martin makes sounds modern: one of the alt-rock-meets-rap artists flourishing following Lil Peep’s era, Somber Hills weaves together dark lyricism and hyper energy throughout his new release,” the feature continued.
