Singer-songwriter Ruby Fields wrapped up her Australian tour with an In My Room session with Rolling Stone AU/NZ.
Following her headline run, Fields played a familiar favourite – “P Plates” – as well as some new tracks off her newly released album Small Achievements, the follow-up to her acclaimed 2021 debut Been Doin’ It for a Bit, which debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums chart.
Across Small Achievements‘ 12 tracks, Fields chronicles half a decade of hardship and hardiness at home in NSW’s Northern Rivers, including flooding, the Covid pandemic, and more personal forms of loss, as well as the littles wins she witnessed while working at the Nudge (Billinudgel Hotel) – seen on the album’s cover. The grungy alt-rock feel of her past work stretches out on the album, incorporating ’80s-style heartland rock, bushland folk, and soft-stepping indie pop.
“I want this album to be a reminder to celebrate shit, because we tend to focus on the next big thing without reflecting on how much we’ve already achieved,” she said in March.
Fields’ Australian tour kicked off in April upon the album’s release in Melbourne, and continued on to Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Fremantle.
