Prolific Perth psych progressives Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are set to hit Sydney as the second instalment of the Jack Daniel’s Live At Last concert tour – a series to welcome back the triumphant return of live music to Australia.

Handling the New South Wales leg of the tour, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have made waves through the music world since their inception in 2014, becoming one of the biggest bands across the country in the psych-rock sector.

With four albums to their name, and a fifth – Night Gnomes – set to drop later this month, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are undoubtedly on the cusp of another stellar chapter in their already-storied career, with tracks like “Lava Lamp Pisco” and “Bubblegum Infinity” helping to give fans a taste of what’s to come.

“A lot of the album is about trying to work out what the F#@! is going on, in general life and obviously the period of time we’ve all found ourselves dormant in for the past two years,” frontman Jack McEwan recently said of their upcoming record.

“I started reading a few quotes from philosophers because, hey! They might know what’s going on, but mostly it was a bunch of cleverly worded gibberish that was drenched in self turmoil that thankfully, serendipitously, unbeknownst to me was the thing I found comfort in. That nobody has a clue what life is and we’re all winging it as we go! Cheers, William of Ockham.”

Of course, while their new album is set to see them reach dizzying new heights in their storied career, they’re also set to bring their new tunes (along with plenty of old favourites) to the live stage in due course.

With a penchant for ensuring their musical insanity isn’t just left on record, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have carved out a name for themselves as one of the must-see live acts on stages around the world. In 2019, a support slot for New York City rockers Interpol saw their performance dubbed “one of the most raucous shows going around” by Tone Deaf, while guitarist Luke Parish told Rolling Stone Australia last year that their live sets are just as important as the music they make in the studio.

“I feel there’s two elements to the band,” Parish said of what could be the group’s mission statement. “I think the live show is its own thing entirely. A lot of the recordings are almost unachievable live. The live show is bringing all the energy of the records to people in the best way you can. It’s like two projects. You’ve got one recording project, and then the live thing is like a whole other project altogether.

“I’d say there’d be two different mission statements, which is making stuff sound really good in the studio, and then putting on the highest energy level set you can without going to hospital.”

Following on from the first show of iconic psych rockers POND, the Jack Daniel’s Live At Last series will see Psychedelic Porn Crumpets hitting Factory Theatre in Sydney on the 21st of April, bringing their signature psychedelic, alt-indie sound with them. With tickets set at only $10 a piece, they’re sure to go quickly, so punters will want to hop to it fast.

Paying true homage to the return of Australian live music, Jack Daniel’s Live At Last series is set to give back to artists and venues with 100% of ticket sales going towards Support Act: the music industry charity delivers crisis relief services to musicians, managers, crew, and music workers who have been unable to work.

“Jack Daniel’s has a long history in music and has always been part of the moments that count; on stage and in the crowd, with artists and their fans,” explained Dimitra Tassopoulos, Senior Brand Manager at Jack Daniel’s.

“It’s important for us to continue to create these moments and to support the live music and on-premise community. We are thrilled to be announcing these shows and to be donating the total ticket sales to Support Act so that they can continue the amazing work they have been doing in the industry.”

Keen to see Psychedelic Porn Crumpets take to the stage, and keep the Jack Daniel’s Live At Last tour on a brilliant roll? It’s just under one week until the outfit will capture the audience, and tickets are on sale now for only $10 via Secret Sounds.
