Melbourne’s beloved indie-folk duo Pierce Brothers return with a powerful new standalone single, “Run Around the Lake”, a song that captures their signature high-energy sound while delving into the more personal side of life on the road.

Known for their infectious stage presence and honest lyricism, twin brothers Jack and Patrick Pierce take listeners on a reflective journey, tackling themes of self-doubt, homesickness, and resilience on the road.

The song was born out of a difficult tour experience at the start of this year, as Jack recalls: “This was written while on tour in Europe. Both Pat and myself were sick with the flu and had to cancel shows. It’s a song about self-doubt ultimately… I was wondering why I was going through all this if I’m missing my family the whole time!”

This deeply personal moment inspired the heartfelt lyrics, with the twins turning their struggle into a poignant anthem for anyone who has questioned their purpose in the face of hardship.

Co-produced by the brothers themselves along with longtime collaborator Phil Threlfall, and recorded in Jack’s home studio, “Run Around the Lake” carries a distinctly intimate feel, yet it packs enough power to fill the biggest venues. Drawing influence from singer-songwriter Noah Kahan, whose work has recently resonated with Jack, Pierce Brothers have crafted an “audience song,” designed to connect deeply with their fans.

“The main influence on the vibe of the track was inspired in the first instance by our live audience,” Jack says. “I wanted to make it an ‘audience song’ akin to other Pierce Brothers tracks like ‘Brother’ or ‘Amsterdam’.”

With over 40 million global streams and over a decade-long career, Pierce Brothers have established themselves as one of Australia’s most dynamic indie-folk acts, transforming from Bourke Street buskers to international headlining act. Their 2024 album Everything Is Bigger Than Me debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA Australian Albums Chart, cementing a milestone year for the band, who also celebrated the tenth anniversary of their acclaimed debut EP The Night Tree.

In a move to take control of their creative direction, the duo recently launched their own record label, Woolstore Records, and “Run Around the Lake” is the first release on the label. “We’re both really stoked to have made the step into launching our own label,” Jack reveals. “We’re looking forward to exploring options of building it out with other artists and are very excited to see where it takes us!”

This month, Pierce Brothers will hit the road with British folk-pop icon James Blunt, supporting his sold-out national tour. The tour, which kicks off next Thursday, November 21st in Brisbane and wraps in Perth on November 28th, will give fans the chance to experience “Run Around the Lake” live.

With these sold-out arena dates across Australia, the brothers are ready to take their latest anthem to their biggest crowds yet, saying, “It’s such an incredible opportunity, and we’re aiming to really bring the vibes all over Australia!”

The shows are just the beginning for Pierce Brothers, who have already announced a string of festival appearances for 2025, kicking off with Good Gumnuts Festival in January, followed by Riverboats Festival, the final Bluesfest in Byron Bay, and their fourth appearance at Mundi Mundi Bash.

Pierce Brothers’ “Run Around the Lake” is out now.
