Tāmaki Makaurau’s dream-pop quartet Phoebe Rings are in full bloom with their new single, “Daisy.”
This swooning, sparkly track – an extra treat on their upcoming reissued self-titled EP – is so feel-good it’ll make you believe that September’s sunny days are here to stay, the endless winter rain is a distant memory, and spring has officially arrived.
In fact, it’s the swirling synths and feel-good lines like “When you’re next to me, the world’s full of daisies” that make “Daisy” feel iridescent—something Phoebe Rings have always achieved with their shimmering, light-as-air sound.
The accompanying video is just as charming, taking you on a day trip with the band through the colourful flowers of inner-city Albert Park. You can watch it below.
The four-piece – Crystal Choi, Ben Locke (Sea Views), Simeon Kavanagh-Vincent (Lucky Boy^, Dream Warriors), and Alex Freer (A.C. Freazy, Tiny Ruins) – are about to reach even more listeners.
They’ll relaunch their 2021 self-titled EP via US tastemakers Carpark Records on October 19th, joining an impressive roster that includes The Beths and Hans Pucket. They’ll also be showcasing at SXSW Sydney in October, joining other local New Zealand acts like Brandn Shiraz and Rei.
They’ve gone from strength to strength since their first appearance on the scene four years ago. They’ve previously opened for Arlo Parks and The Beths and played at Fringe Festival (Outsider Sounds Festival) 2020, Nestfest 2020, Festival of Lights 2024, and Future Future Music Festival 2024.
Phoebe Rings’ “Daisy” is out now. Their reissued EP is out on Friday, October 18th via Carpark Records. Pre-order the 12″ vinyl edition here.
