It’s been a massive 12 months for Kita Alexander. Last November, she scored her first-ever ARIA nomination for her collaboration with FISHER, “Atmosphere” (nominated for Best Single at last year’s Rolling Stone Australia Awards), and she performed as the opening act on Dua Lipa’s recent arena tour of Australia.
The Brisbane-born pop singer-songwriter recently signed with live agency One Fiinix (home to Ed Sheeran, Olly Alexander, and Tash Sultana) for UK and European bookings, and she’s already locked in for The Great Escape in England this May.
Alexander competed in the Michael Gudinski – Breakthrough Artist category at the 2024 ARIA Awards, recognition of the strength of her debut album from the same year, Young in Love.
She’s not slowing down following the drop of her first album, with an upcoming Australian tour set to celebrate her new single, “Press Pause”. —Neil Griffiths

Rolling Stone AU/NZ: How was 2024 for you? What were your biggest achievements and favourite moments?
Kita Alexander: 2024 was really full on. Full of really high highs and really low lows. My biggest achievement was releasing my debut album and juggling the workload with being a really present/connected mum.
My favourite moment was a local show I did in Brunswick Heads that was all-ages and my kids were in the front row. My son Vali even got up on stage for his feature beat boxing on one of my songs.
Music is an increasingly crowded and competitive field. What’s one thing that makes you stand out from other artists?
I’m still trying to answer this question. It’s a daily existential experience. How do I set myself apart? How do I create a world that my fans can feel safe and at home within? But I think at the end of the day me being myself will set me apart, because fortunately for me there’s not another Kita Alexander out there.
What’s coming up for you in 2025 and beyond? Any big shows, notable releases?
SOOOO much is coming up in 2025. It has the potential to really make my bigger dreams come true. I’m releasing a few singles in the first half of the year. I have shows planned that are yet to be announced and I’m currently working on a second album.
