Jess Macc celebrated her music releases of the year with a stunning Rolling Stone AU/NZ In My Room session.

The Sydney-based singer-songwriter and multi-hyphenate creative performed three songs in the intimate session: “Chemistry”, “Lover”, and “Troubled Waters”.

Opening with “Chemistry”, a fiery alt-country tune co-written and produced by Daniel Natoli, Macc set the tone with a song that thrives on raw energy.

“‘Chemistry’ is about that wild, explosive feeling when your brain chemistry is completely rewired by someone—when attraction goes beyond logic, and you’re just caught in the madness of it,” Macc explains. “It’s raw, it’s electric, and it’s completely out of your control.”

On the writing of “Troubled Waters”, Macc reveals a more dreamlike inspiration. “One of the coolest things about it is that that the lyrics just dropped in while I was asleep one night. I don’t feel like I actually wrote them. I’d been working on writing for television and they just were like a dream. Then I had to work out what it sounded like so I took my guitar down to the beach (with a coffee) and the melody rolled out.”

Macc has long been a creative powerhouse, wearing multiple hats as a musician, photographer, videographer, and producer, but 2025 marks a bold new chapter: “Chemistry” and the singles that follow signal her evolving sound and storytelling.
