Jason Parker performed a colourful Rolling Stone AU/NZ ‘In My Room’ session ahead of his spectacular Auckland Pride event.
The Auckland-based pop artist is taking over the city’s Basement Theatre this week for Little Gay In, a vibrant celebration of Aotearoa’s queer musicians. Created last year by Parker, Little Gay In aims to bring people together to experience the diversity and creativity of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Parker showcased plenty of that creativity in his ‘In My Room’ session. Backed by Zoë Larsen-Cumming (who previously featured in Rolling Stone AU/NZ for her musical project, Babe Martin) on keyboard and Maude Minnie Morris on guitar, Parker, resplendent in a shimmering pink ensemble, performed a handful of highlights from his discography.

He opened with “Crash”, a streaming hit from his 2024 EP, Fairy Bread.
Explaining the concept behind the EP, Parker previously shared, “The idea of Fairy Bread really is about taking something and making it better. For example, plain white bread and adding sprinkles, and that is what Fairy Bread is. Coming from darkness into light.”
Parker went back to the start for his second song, tenderly singing early cut “You Rescued Me”, before concluding with the title track from his recent EP.
Supported by sparse instrumentation throughout, Parker’s belting but soulful vocals came to the fore in his ‘In My Room’ session. Watch it in full above.
And if you’re in Auckland today or tomorrow, you can catch Parker in his element at Little Gay In, with two great local artists, indie-pop singer-songwriter Katie-Lee and Pasifika pop star Tyrun, also set to showcase their music.
“I noticed a lack of queer people attending live shows and wanted to create a space where they could truly belong,” Parker says of the special event.
