“A song for the big feelers” is who chloe: the brand says their new single is for – and that it is.
Chloe: the brand (aka Chloe McMahon) is a Naarm-based queer artist who experiments with an atmospheric pop sound – think MUNA, Clairo, and The Japanese House.
Their latest release, “SPIL” is an ode to “people who have been told they are ‘too sensitive’ or ‘too much’,” Chloe wrote on Instagram.
They went on to say that they wrote the song using a metaphor that was brought up in a therapy session. “The metaphor describes a series of cups in our minds, each representing a different need,” they explained. Their therapist said, “some people fill our cups with water, whilst other people pour our cups out,” describing different types of people we can all identify in our own lives.
Paired with the dream-like pop sound, Chloe’s intimate lyricism makes an immediate impression and hooks you right away.
“And I spill every time that I see you,” they sing atop a floaty alt-pop rhythm that will have listeners both stopping in reflection and batting the urge to dance all in one.

In 2024, Chloe supported Mia Wray – who featured in our Future of Music 2025 list earlier this year – on the latter’s tour, where they sang an early version of “SPILL” before it was released out into the world. They have also supported the likes of Telenova, Holly Hebe, and Sesame Girl.
“SPILL” follows Chloe’s 2024 single “Smokers Deck”, which they said at the time was about “smoking to seem cool, even though you know both the cigarette and the people around you are bad for your health.”
That single was preceded by other releases such as “Co-Star”, “Left of Centre”, “Stranger 2 Me”, and “Thinking”. But Chloe’s reflective latest single feels like the start of a momentous career period for the Australian artist.
