Despite releasing her debut album, Brazen, in August, Brazen Barbie is already back with a new seven-track mixtape, Too Brazen.
The project finds her confidently navigating familiar themes — heartbreak, ambition, betrayal, and self-discovery — with the same confidence that’s marked her early work.
Recent co-signs from Apple Music tastemaker Ebro Darden show that she’s slowly carving out her signature sound with each release.
Brazen Barbie gave Rolling Stone AU/NZ an exclusive track-by-track breakdown of her new mixtape, which you can read below.
Brazen Barbie’s Too Brazen is out now.
“Pack It Up”
“Pack It Up” came from a day where I felt completely drained by the people around me, and instead of letting the frustration sit in my body, I poured it straight into the song. It’s playful but firm. It’s me setting boundaries and taking my energy back without losing my sense of humour. The track has a crazy beat switch that mirrors that emotional shift, going from fed up to fully in control. The hook works both ways. It’s me telling people to pack up their bad intentions, and it’s also me packing away old versions of myself that I’ve outgrown.

“En Route”
“En Route” was written during one of the most chaotic emotional periods I’ve had. I was dealing with loss, burnout, and betrayal from people I trusted. The song is about choosing to move through the mess rather than freeze inside it. Sonically it leans into an old school boom bap feel, which made the writing even more honest and grounding. It’s steady, reflective, and a reminder that you can keep going even when life feels completely overwhelming.
“Payback”
“Payback” lives in the same emotional space as “En Route”, but it’s calmer and more reflective. Instead of anger, it looks back with clarity and confidence. It’s built around a sample of “Lacrimosa”, which gives it this dramatic, almost cinematic weight. The production makes it feel like a victory lap in slow motion. “Payback” is about understanding that success is its own kind of revenge, and that the hardest moments can become the very thing that motivates you.
“Miss Andry”
“Miss Andry” basically wrote itself. I had the hook looped in my head for six months after it randomly hit me at work, so by the time I decided to use it and record it I definitely felt what I was saying even more… It takes the feeling of being fed up with certain behaviours and flips it into something cheeky and powerful. It is playful, but it still says exactly what it needs to say.
“Blessings”
“Blessings” came from a real shift in the way I saw myself. I stopped doubting whether I deserved the good things happening in my life and finally allowed myself to enjoy them without guilt. The track blends gratitude with ambition and a bit of manifestation energy. It’s about wanting more for yourself while still recognising how far you’ve come. The “devil” in the hook represents both self sabotage and the people who try to derail you. It’s basically an affirmation disguised as a rap song.
“Why Don’t Ya”
“Why Don’t Ya” is playful, flirtatious, and grounded in self worth. It’s about letting people show you who they are through their actions instead of their promises. It sits in that space where you’re open, curious and confident, but not willing to be sold a dream. It has a lightness to it, but the message is very real. Standards matter, and this track holds that line.
“Heavy Rings”
“Heavy Rings” is about walking into a room like you own it and knowing your power without looking for validation. There is a little relationship tension in it, but the heart of the song is clarity, not heartbreak. It is the moment you realise someone was never on your level to begin with. I made this one with Sydney-based producer Prodbenny, and the energy came together straight away. “Heavy Rings” feels sharp, confident, and unapologetic from start to finish.
