‘In My Room’ With BIRDEE 王煒

The rising pop star performed three songs, including her new single, for the latest Rolling Stone AU/NZ ‘In My Room’ session

BIRDEE 王煒 performed three songs, including her new single, for the latest Rolling Stone AU/NZ ‘In My Room’ session.

Released on Wednesday, May 22nd, the Sydney-based rising pop star’s new single, “Used to”, explores changing dynamics in romantic relationships.

“’Used to’ can be interpreted in two ways. It can be about a situationship where two people are entangled or also about a couple that have been together for a long time and have lost the spark they once had,” BIRDEE 王煒 explains.

For her ‘In My Room’ session, which took place inside the studio, she first performed “Used to” followed by “Too Fucked Up”, a song about “going out and getting lit, but not getting nasty drunk… just getting a little bit fucked up,” belying the title.

BIRDEE 王煒 finished with “Fix You”, saying, “it’s about all the wounded and damaged people that I’ve mistakenly drawn into my life… it’s a reminder to them that the only person that can fix you is yourself,” she pointedly added.

BIRDEE 王煒 released her debut EP, Can’t Be Loved, in 2022, followed by On My Own last year. Her 2023 EP featured the breakout single “Poolside”, which reached international TV audiences when it featured in the latest season of the hit US series Pretty Little Liars.

BIRDEE 王煒 named her second EP On My Own as a reference to her solo travels in Europe and Los Angeles, during which she performed her debut international shows.

“I pushed my boundaries of creating to discover what I could make and this was the result,” she told Tone Deaf. “I’ve always believed that to get out of your comfort zone is essential, in the studio and in life. These songs comprise of realisations and moments I had throughout my trip.”

Last year saw BIRDEE 王煒 embark on her debut headline tour of Australia, play her first show in Europe, and tour Southeast Asia – talk about a busy schedule.
