Here’s what else you might have missed last week:
Logan Priest – “I Could Love U”
Kiwi-born, Sydney-based pop artist Logan Priest is back with an energetic new track, following up January’s “Welcome to the New World”. “‘I Could Love U’ is a playful, youthful song about being infatuated with somebody,” says Priest. “They could do or say anything, it wouldn’t change the way you feel towards them.”
King Parrot – “Punish the Runt”
Aussie grindcore outfit King Parrot have unleashed another monster from their upcoming album, A Young Person’s Guide to King Parrot (out June 6th). Vocalist Matt Young sums it up best: “This new one is a personal favourite of mine from the upcoming record. We enjoyed putting this one together and it’s got every aspect of what the band does in it, grind, thrash, punk and even rock ’n’ roll elements.”
The Terrys – “Once Is Never Enough”
Strummy acoustic guitars, breezy grooves – The Terrys do what they do best on “Once Is Never Enough”. “It’s about knowing that sometimes, once you start, you can’t stop. Simply put, sometimes once is never enough.”
Winston Surfshirt – “Spend My Nights”
Winston Surfshirt lean into early 2000s nostalgia with this smooth, hook-filled love song.
“The premise is clear in the hook, ‘I’d rather spend my nights with you.’ The verses are sorta me talking to my partner who I’ve been with since we were 15. She knows me more than I know me and after like 19 years, it’s sorta me addressing how I still feel the same now as I did back then and still wanna spend every night with her.”
The Moving Stills – “Running Out”
The Central Coast indie-pop outfit keep the momentum going with “Running Out”, the follow-up to “Telephone”, which became triple j’s most-played song.
Maggie Tra – “Touch Your Soul”
Maggie Tra gets groovy with “Touch Your Soul”, a disco-infused track from her upcoming EP Disco Lady. “It’s about dancers embracing their bodies and sexualities on the dance floor,” Tra says.
Za Noon – “Beg”
Jess Zanoni (of Arbes) trades synths for guitars on “Beg”, the first taste of her next chapter as Za Noon.
Planet Rami – “Pink to Blue”
Pointer Recordings’ newest signee, Planet Rami, taps ARIA-nominated Tony Buchen (Troye Sivan, Smashing Pumpkins) and Luther Russell (The Freewheelers) for “Pink to Blue”.
“A turbulent love was existent in my life when we were writing this song,” says Rami. “Sometimes things happen for a reason and out of your control in a beautiful synchronicity,” says Rami.
Oscar the Wild – “Big Think”
Kaurna/Adelaide alt-rock quartet Oscar The Wild return with their new single, “Big Think”, unveiling a darker, heavier side to their sound.
The Superjesus – The Superjesus
Adelaide rock veterans The Superjesus are back with their first album in 20 years. “There’s a lot of joy in the Superjesus camp, laced with relief and pride,” says the band’s Sarah McLeod.
CIVIC – “Chrome Dipped”
CIVIC announce their third album Chrome Dipped with a gritty, swaggering lead single of the same name. “It’s about finding human emotion and a world that’s hurling towards complete reliance on the machine,” they say.
Tom Nethersole – “Ardmona Rd”
Tom Nethersole’s new single, “Ardmona Rd”, blends pop and country-folk influences for a sun-kissed sound, complete with a super sweet music video.
Tomorrow’s Forecast – “Ribbons”
Tomorrow’s Forecast are back with their bittersweet new single “Ribbons” about lost love.
BOY SODA – “Lil Obsession” (Live Version)
BOY SODA flexes his soulful vocal chops with the live version of “Lil Obsession”, backed by a full band – saxophone included.
Ben Swissa – HUSH
Fresh off his first sold-out Aussie headline tour, 19-year-old Sydney artist Ben Swissa drops his debut EP HUSH and announces a world tour across Europe and North America. The lead single “Before It Gets Worse” is out now.
The Cat Empire – Bird in Paradise
The Cat Empire drop their tenth studio album, Bird in Paradise, a flamenco-inspired project that’s breaking new ground. This one features the most languages ever on a Cat Empire record, including Creole, the native tongue of the Seychelles.
ICONYX – Blak on Trak
Rising First Nations artist ICONYX delivers her debut album Blak on Trak, proving she’s a force in contemporary Aboriginal Australian music.
Saint Lane, Mattymadeit – “Plastic Melting”
Saint Lane and Gold Coast producer Mattymadeit are back with another taste of their upcoming alternative dubstep album STRAIGHT TO DVD, set for release in August.
Miramar – “Highlight of My Week”
After supporting Groove Armada, Miramar strip things back on “Highlight of My Week”, a delicate new single ahead of shows with Mickey Kojack and Northeast Party House.
Teresa – “Let’s Commit Arson”
Adelaide pop artist Teresa introduces herself with her new upbeat ska-leaning track, “Let’s Commit Arson”, about embracing the ride of your 20s.
YAGKI – “Run”
YAGKI returns with this soaring pop-rock release. “‘Run’ is about my sleep paralysis and night terrors. I wrote it in the perspective of myself at 16, during the peak of my sleep paralysis while I was homeless,” YAGKI says.
Floodlights – Underneath
Last but not least, Melbourne rock outfit Floodlights return with their stirring third studio album, Underneath.
