Every week, Rolling Stone AU/NZ rounds up our favorite Australian music from the past seven days.
Catch up on previous coverage of Budjerah, Missy Higgins, Ashton Irwin, Blusher, and Keelan Mak, and check out fresh tracks from Dental Plan, Lola Scott, Snowy Band, Forest Claudette, Somber Hills, CLAMM, Eliza & The Delusionals, and A. Swayze & the Ghosts below.
Dental Plan – Raw Nerve
Dental Plan’s debut album Raw Nerve was forged through Melbourne winters, and it shows in the ferocious riffs and frustration on tracks like “Hope Stealer” and “Hole In Me”. “Can’t Get What You Want” bring out a more melodic side, while “Garbage World” is a sing-along ode to taking the road less travelled.
Lola Scott – “Caffeine”
Sydney singer-songwriter Lola Scott moves away from her usual electro-pop sound with “Caffeine”, a soft acoustic song about a relationship falling apart. Written in an old church in rural Australia, the song’s simple, dreamy sound captures sleepless nights and feeling fragile.
“This song felt like a premonition of a breakup,” Scott says. “I was battling insomnia after moving out alone, I relied heavily on caffeine that worsened my sleepless nights. My restless mind and anxious attachment strained my relationship.”
Snowy Band – Age Difference
Beloved Melbourne indie outfit Snowy Band thoughtfully explore different concepts of time on their new album, Age Difference, their first full-length release since 2021’s Alternate Endings. The upbeat “Looking Back” is about the luxury of hindsight, while the more gentle “ ‘If You Ever Need Me” is a love song stretched across time zones.
Snowy recorded the album at home, with each song carefully built from early demos into the tracks you hear now. Their DIY music videos are a highlight too.
Forest Claudette – “2AM”
While on tour with Omar Apollo in Australia, Forest Claudette dropped news of their next EP, Stone Between. The lead single, “2AM”, is a sleek and smooth R&B track about new love.
Somber Hills – K*ll Me When I’m Happy
Somber Hills knows how to make a catchy track. The alt-rock newcomer’s latest EP adds three strong, melodic pop-punk songs to his growing repertoire, and he’s clearly just getting started. You can catch Somber Hills live on his Australia and New Zealand tour for next month (ticket information here).
CLAMM – Disembodiment
The Melbourne punks are a force to be reckoned with on their new EP, Disembodiment. Released via Meat Machine, this latest offering proves that CLAMM’s raw energy and spirit are as strong as ever.
Eliza & the Delusionals – Make It Feel Like the Garden
The indie rock trio want to take you to their happy place, or “garden”, with their bright and dreamy sophomore album, Make It Feel Like the Garden. Check out the magical music video for “Lately”, which brings the album artwork to life.
A. Swayze & the Ghosts – “He Is Dead”
The Hobart-based rockers and ARIA nominees are bursting back onto our radar with their new single, “He Is Dead”, ahead of their second album, Let’s Live a Life Better Than This, due on October 25th. This spirited punk anthem tackles themes like false idols, consumerism, and questioning past ideals.
