It’s been a big week for local R&B and hip hop releases, along with a new heartbreaker smash from The Buoys. Check out the freshest Australian releases by local artists between February 5th and 11th below.
Chanel Loren – “Carelessly Doomed ft. Kota the Friend”
Chanel Loren reunites with New York rapper Kota The Friend for their first release of the year. The Sydney-based artist, who previously joined Kota on his Australian tour in late 2022, delivers a song about letting go of overthinking. With wonderfully breezy melodies, it’s a track that keeps us hooked.
The Buoys – “Guard My Heart”
The Buoys return with a knockout new breakup anthem, “Guard My Heart”, offering comfort for those tough times. Vocalist Zoe Catterall sums it up: “It’s like a big hug for when you gotta let someone go, for better or worse, to guard your own heart and maybe even theirs too.”
Shanae – “outside”
Following last year’s breakout track “am i dumb? / am i done?”, Sydney-based South African R&B artist Shanae is back with a euphoric new banger. The accompanying lo-fi video, shot in New Zealand by local director Connor Pritchard, captures Shanae road tripping around Auckland and hanging out with Aotearoa rap star JessB.
3% & Tia Gostelow – “Sleezy Steezy Cool”
Australian hip-hop group 3% drops their second single, “Sleezy Steezy Cool,” featuring First Nations artist Tia Gostelow. The track packs a punch and comes with a music video highlighting the band’s experiences in the Australian music industry from a First Nations perspective.
Oliver Cronin – “Hello Goodbye”
The rising Sydney-based artist finds themselves caught up in a toxic relationship on this punchy new track, kicking off the year with a bang.
Lithe – “Slide By Me”
Lithe, the alias of Melbourne-based producer Kyle Setc, keeps the fire burning with his latest release, “Slide By Me.” This track is dark, moody, and full of late night vibes.
