Atlas Franklin Alexander performed a Rolling Stone AU/NZ In My Room session from a stunning vantage point.

The Tasmanian-based psych-pop artist celebrated his new EP Flexible New Replica by taking to the beautiful sand dunes at Dark Point to film an equally beautiful session.

Read all about it below.

“Earlier this month, the band and I dragged a few hundred kilos of music gear across the sand dunes at Dark Point on the NSW coast. It’s a pretty wild place — open, isolated, and constantly shifting with the wind. I had this idea to perform my EP Flexible New Replica from start to finish out there, just us and the dunes. So we packed everything — guitars, synths, drums, amps, sampler, decks, laptops, a generator for power — and started the slow trek across the sand as the sun began to drop.

“It was harder than we expected. Every step sank. The wind kept changing. We were racing the light, trying to get everything set up before sunset. There’s no quick way to move gear across dunes, so it became this sort of meditative struggle — equal parts exhaustion and excitement. But once we finally switched on the generator and hit the first note, everything around us shifted. The sound echoed across the empty landscape, and for a moment it felt like the dunes were part of the music.

“Wanagi directed the shoot, he used a mix of drone footage and a handheld camera. The whole thing unfolded in real time as the sky changed from gold to deep blue then to black. Just the songs, the elements, and the light disappearing. It was raw, unpredictable, and beautiful in a way that’s hard to plan for. I think that’s what I love most about it — the imperfections, the effort, the way it all existed for just one sunset.”
