ASHY brought stylish pop to Christchurch Town Hall for a special Rolling Stone AU/NZ In My Room session.

The Kiwi pop star took to the James Hay Theatre at the hallowed venue in her hometown to perform “Girls We Got It”, accompanied by backing musicians, Emily C. Browning and Georgia Clifford.

ASHY’s In My Room session, which you can watch below, arrives ahead of her second EP, Gone Rogue, which drops tomorrow (September 12th).

The forthcoming EP features standout tracks like “Ottoman”, hailed as a Song You Need to Know by us, “Sweeter”, a collaboration with Nashville rapper Jarrod Gipson, and “All This Time”, her viral remake of Drax Project’s hit.

Her new project features tracks written with producers in Los Angeles, Nashville, Sydney, and Auckland, showing that ASHY’s clearly spread her net far and wide in order to make as polished a pop record as possible.

“I see this EP as a love letter to my favourite genre, pop, and how and artist can push against a singular narrative and sound,” ASHY says.

“The final phase of Gone Rogue is some of the work I’m most proud of, and I think shows a clear sense of self with being honest and daring in my choices.”

Gone Rogue follows her debut EP, Status, which placed well in our year-end New Zealand music list in 2023.  “[…] it’s one of the strongest pop records released by an Aotearoa artist in years,” we declared.

It might have been two years since ASHY’s last EP, but she’s been keeping very busy since then.

She supported Drax Project on the Wellington pop-rock band’s New Zealand tour, participated in APRA SongHubs, and appeared at SXSW — both in Sydney and Austin — several times. As well as having syncs in Grown-ish and Home and Away, she’s also been chosen to be a Shure Artist Ambassador.

ASHY’s Gone Rogue is out Friday, September 12th (pre-save here).
