Before heading South for a tour in Australia, Anna of the North performed an ‘In My Room’ session for Rolling Stone.
The solo project of Norwegian singer-songwriter Anna Lotterud, Anna of the North earned her poetic artistic moniker while studying in Melbourne in the 2010s.
Since then, she’s released three albums of moving dream pop, including last year’s Crazy Life, a record hailed as one of the Best Albums Of 2022 So Far by The Times.
“The album is about everything, nothing, and all in between,” Anna said about the album. “It’s about those small things we don’t necessarily talk about – like the days where you lie on the couch because you can’t get out of the house. As humans, we’re complex.
“What I love thinking about is the fact that when I let these songs out in to the universe, people will connect with them in different ways. Some people will cry to them; other people will have sex to them. That’s the beautiful thing about music. I’ve definitely gone into some territory inside of me that I haven’t in the past.”
From a room in Norway, Anna of the North, accompanied by Stefan on guitar, performed two songs for her ‘In My Room’ session.
First up was a rendition of “Autumn Leaves”, which Anna said was “inspired by Eva Cassidy’s version.” They followed that with “Nobody”, a highlight of the aforementioned Crazy Life. “It’s a song about wanting someone so bad that you don’t want anyone else,” she relatable revealed before singing.
