KUČKA’s Second Album Cements Her as Australia’s Next Great Electronic Export

Gleaming electronic production and irresistible pop hooks galore on new LP from WA producer

KUČKA

Dillon Howl

You can tell a lot about a producer by their choice of collaborators, and KUČKA has had an almost peerless run. Rappers like A$AP Rocky and Vince Staples; rising stars flowerkid and Imanu; fellow electronic titans including Mount Kimbie and, of course, her frequent creative partner Flume

Can You Hear Me Dreaming?, however, is all about Laura Jane Lowther (although Flume does feature on the euphoric and experimental “One More Night”).

The English-born, WA producer’s second album expands on her impressive 2021 debut album Wrestling. She effortlessly merges irresistible pop hooks with gleaming electronic production, her opaque songs vibrating with glitchy twists and turns.

This album should be a coronation for KUČKA as Australia’s next truly great electronic export. In 2022, she supported Flume at Coachella; what a pleasing circular moment it would be if the roles were reversed at the iconic festival next year.
