‘Knives Out’ is back and sharper than ever, this time unveiling an impossible case in a small-town parish in upstate New York.

A cast of A-listers under investigation, a thrumming organ tune, a twisted tale and Daniel Craig at his debonair best — Knives Out is back for its third run in Wake Up Dead Man, and the full trailer has just been released.

Benoit Blanc returns to screens big and small once again, this time turning to a parish led by murdered Monsignor Jefferson Wicks — played by Josh Brolin (The Running Man) — and his “flock of wicked wolves,” as Blanc’s trailer narration puts it, to solve his most complex case yet.

Said flock includes Josh O’Connor (Challengers) as assisting priest Jud Duplenticy, Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction) as devotee Martha Delacroix, Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man 3) as groundskeeper Samson Holt and several townsfolk — namely Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) as Dr Nat Sharp, Kerry Washington (Scandal) as lawyer Vera Draven, Daryl McCormack (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande) as politician Cy Draven, Mila Kunis (Bad Moms) as local police chief Geraldine Scott, Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus) as musician Simone Vivane and Andrew Scott (All of us Strangers) as author Lee Ross.

The first two films in the series, Knives Out (2019) and Glass Onion (2022), quickly became classics of the whodunnit genre, with director Rian Johnson and Daniel Craig’s pairing cementing Benoit Blanc and his foghorn drawl as one of cinema’s most iconic detectives.

Discussing the franchise’s latest entry with TUDUM, Rian Johnson said the script “was the hardest script I have ever had to write.” Expectations are high, since both previous films earned an Oscar nomination. Stakes are higher still, as Johnson also said “This film charts [Blanc’s] most personal journey yet. He’s forced to engage with the case — and with himself — in a way that’s completely new.”

Wake Up Dead Man will release in limited theatres on November 26, before streaming on Netflix from December 12. Watch the trailer below.
