Timothy Busfield denied accusations of child abuse as he surrendered to officials in Albuquerque on Tuesday, four days after an arrest warrant was issued for the West Wing actor.

“I’m going to confront these lies,” the 68-year-old said in a video obtained by TMZ prior to Busfield turning himself in. “They’re horrible, they’re all lies, and I did not do anything to those little boys.”

Busfield’s surrender comes on the heels of Albuquerque officials requesting help from U.S. Marshals in locating Busfield, who was believed to be outside of New Mexico at the time the warrant was issued on Friday. He is charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse related to twin child actors whom he worked with on the Fox television series The Cleaning Lady.

In his video statement, Busfield explained he needed some time to get himself back to Albuquerque after receiving a call from police on Friday. Over the weekend, he hired an attorney and drove 2,000 miles down to New Mexico. “I’m going to fight it,” Busfield added. “I’m going to fight it with a great team, and I’m going to be exonerated. I know I am, because this is all so wrong and all lies. So hang in there, and hopefully I’m out real soon and back to working. I love everybody for supporting me. Thank you.”

Larry Stein, a civil lawyer for Busfield, tells Rolling Stone the claims against his client are baseless. A spokesperson for the Albuquerque Police Department confirmed to Rolling Stone that Busfield turned himself in at the Metro Detention Center on Tuesday afternoon and will “be booked on his warrant.”

Albuquerque officials launched an investigation into the Emmy Award-winning actor and director back in November 2024, when police were called to the University of New Mexico Hospital over concern that two young child actors were possibly “groomed” by Busfield. The boys referred to Busfield, who served as executive producer and a director for The Cleaning Lady, as “Uncle Tim” and described unwanted tickling.

In October 2025, the boys’ mother called Child Protective Services, reporting that “her children both disclosed that there was sexual abuse by Timothy from around November 2022 to spring 2024,” according to the 13-page arrest warrant obtained by Rolling Stone.

Investigators later obtained therapist records from September 2025, where one of the boys disclosed “that a director of a series … had engaged in inappropriate touching.” Diagnosed with PTSD and anxiety, the boy was so distraught that he was having “nightmares about the director touching him and waking up scared,” per the warrant.

Detectives contacted Busfield about the accusations in November, conducting a phone interview with him. Busfield largely denied the claims, saying the twins’ mother wanted “revenge” because the show replaced her sons with a younger actor in the series. “There would never be a weird moment about it. I don’t really remember picking those boys up,” Busfield told investigators, according to the warrant. “I remember picking up the boy who followed them. I’d pick him up, and he’d be giggling, and that would sort of get him ready to act.” Warner Bros. investigated a similar complaint against him, but the claims couldn’t be substantiated.

After conducting several interviews with members of the production crew, the detective submitted his findings as part of the arrest warrant, writing “in my training and experience, pedophiles often infiltrate families under a trusted role, like Timothy, who, as a producer, exploited the hectic film sets to tickle and touch [the child actor] on his penis and buttocks, masking it as play.”

Busfield has appeared in several films, including Revenge of the Nerds, Field of Dreams, and Little Big League. He has won an Emmy for his role on the drama series Thirtysomething.
