Get ready to meet the McCartneys in Sam Mendes‘ forthcoming multi-film Beatles biopic. In April, the Fab Four cast was announced for the project, which dedicates an entire film to each member of the band. Paul Mescal landed the role of Paul McCartney. Now, Deadline reports that Saoirse Ronan will join the cast as Linda McCartney.
Representatives for Ronan did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone’s request for comment.
Formal announcements await the remaining leading ladies who will appear alongside Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, as Yoko Ono, Pattie Boyd, and Maureen Starkey.
“I’m honored to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies,” Mendes previously shared in a statement about the ambitious film project. Each of the four movies will tell the story of one of history’s most influential bands from a distinct perspective. Mendes will have access to the life stories of each member and the band’s music rights for a scripted film.
Earlier this year, Starr told The New York Times that he spent two days going over the script line by line with Mendes to make sure it was accurate. The musician requested that some parts be rewritten, specifically scenes that involved his family and Starkey, who was his first wife. “He had a writer — very good writer, great reputation, and he wrote it great, but it had nothing to do with Maureen and I,” Starr said. “That’s not how we were. I’d say, ‘We would never do that.’”
Mescal is also working on nailing his McCartney. “I’ve met him a couple of times. I adore him. I think he changed the world,” the actor told Rolling Stone in a recent cover story. He’s also been learning to play guitar left-handed, just like him. “It would just be crazy to not play it left-handed, you know?” he said. “You’re like, ‘Nah. I like [McCartney] a lot, but I don’t love him.’ That would be the messaging if I didn’t play left-handed. And he’s the fucking coolest man on planet Earth, I think.”
Sony Pictures will release all four biopics in 2028.
