After Superman‘s dog Krypto flashed across the screen in the first trailer for James Gunn‘s Superman back in December, the pup of steel returned for an extended sneak peek at the upcoming DC Studios film arriving on July 11.

Originally debuted at Cinemacon in Las Vegas earlier this week, the clip reveals David Corenswet’s Superman throughly distressed and bloodied in a frozen tundra. The bleak outlook quickly turns around thanks to the arrival of Krypto, who snowballs towards his Kryptonian and grabs him by the cape, dragging the superhero toward his Fortress of Solitude where a huddle of caped, quippy robots are ready to administer a healthy dose of sunbeams.

The rest of the video offers more glimpses of the Gunn-directed film including Lex Luthor played by Nicholas Hoult and Superman sharing a gravity-defying kiss with Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane. The trailer also features shots of Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), and Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion).

“There’s a lot of these things in this movie now that I’ve been making it for over a year that I think of as normal. But now when you bring it up, I go, ‘Oh yeah, that’s pretty unusual,’” Gunn shared earlier this year in a press junket. “We just start in the middle of the action. Superman’s already existing. Lois and Clark already know each other. Lex hates Superman’s guts from the beginning, although they don’t know each other personally. So we start right in the middle of the action. It takes place over a short amount of time.”

When discussing at Cinemacon this week how his own dog, Ozu, inspired the furry crusader, Gunn recalled catching Ozu chewing up his laptop and shoes, wrecking havoc around their home. “I thought, ‘Oh, my God, what if this dog had superpowers? I’d be fucked,’” Gunn said. “And I said, ‘Now I know what I’m going to do with Superman.’”
