The Witchy Owens Sisters Return Nearly 30 Years Later in ‘Practical Magic 2’ Teaser

The Witchy Owens sisters are back. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock appear in the teaser for ‘Practical Magic 2,’ out Sept. 11

“I’m sure you’ve heard of the Owens family,” Sandra Bullock says in the teaser for Practical Magic 2. That’s an understatement. Nearly 30 years after its release, the long-awaited sequel arrives on Sept. 11.

In the teaser, we’re reunited with the witchy Owens sisters — Sally (Bullock) is seen happily in her garden, while Gillian (Nicole Kidman) is working up some spells in the charming greenhouse. Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing reprise their roles as Aunt Jet and Aunt Frances, while a new character, played by Lee Pace, meets the Owens sisters for the first time. “Everyone we love dies,” Sally tells him. “A really horrible death,” Gillian adds. “It’s just not great for the Tinder bio.”

There are several callbacks to the 1998 film, from a spoon magically stirring in a coffee cup to Harry Nilsson’s “Coconut” playing (hopefully, we’ll get another “midnight margaritas” scene). By the end of the teaser, Gillian is reassuring Sally that whatever sticky situation they’re in, everything will turn out fine. “Everything’s going to be OK?” Sally replies. “Just like it was when we had to bury a corpse under a rose bush? That kind of fine, or different?”

Warner Bros. first confirmed Practical Magic 2 was in the works in 2024, though Kidman recently revealed that she and Bullock were already imagining a sequel while on set for the original. Like the first film, it’s an adaptation of an Alice Hoffman book (2021’s The Book of Magic) and it’s directed by Susanne Bier. It also stars Joey King, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, Solly McLeod, and more.

As Kidman told Rolling Stone in 2024, she and Bullock definitely felt pressure following up a film as beloved as this one. “I just love that we made something that was embraced this way — it’s so rare — and that we get to do it again, hopefully with an audience that embraces us a second time,” she said. “But c’mon, we are witches! We will work our magic.”

While we wait for its release, here’s everything we know about Practical Magic 2.
